The Texas Workforce Commission Report is clear — the next generation of high-paying jobs will be scattered across the healthcare, IT and cybersecurity, and manufacturing and trade fields. The top ten targeted occupations include registered nurses, HVAC system installers, and IT specialists — all careers that Project QUEST can help you get started in through our free retraining and workforce program.

In San Antonio and across the state, workforce partners are coming together to help connect residents to training and credentialing programs that can fast-track them to a career offering a living wage.

According to a 2020 jobs report from the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, average monthly hires for manufacturing jobs outnumbered monthly postings despite the economic slowdown of the pandemic. Aircraft mechanics, production workers, and testers and inspectors all rose to the top of the targeted industry list.

The healthcare industry was also insulated from the downturn, with a nursing shortage creating a more competitive hiring environment for new registered nurses, nursing assistants, and LVNs

And with more companies allowing employees to work-from-home, a dependence on technology increased the demand for computer user support specialists, cybersecurity technicians, and web developers.

“We’ve seen significant increases in the need for exactly the kinds of jobs that we help place QUEST participants into,” said David J. Zammiello, President and CEO of Project QUEST. “We’re grateful for the incredible workforce and education partners who help us connect San Antonians to programs that change their lives.”

At QUEST, career coaches provide individualized attention to help participants stay on track and graduate with their degrees and certifications. And on average, graduates end up earning more than 200 percent of their starting salary.
